About Me

My Journey with ADHD: Survival to Thriving

Steve Kohlenberger - Portrait

I'm Steve Kohlenberger, a California native with ADHD. I enjoyed a long software engineering career beginning 1979 including serial entrepreneurship never knowing I had ADHD.

Early in life, my path came with unique challenges that shaped my skills and I believe fueled my ADHD.

I had a challenging health condition that back in my youth was not well understood. Many times I feared I might not be alive the next day.

This brought forward from within me two wonderful skills:

  1. The ability to continually focus, putting all my energy into the one and only essential thing I must do to survive, and

  2. Maintain a highly motivated, persistent problem solving and learning attitude.

Later in my life, as I was able to clear layers of self-protecting beliefs and behaviors, life events brought Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (cPTSD) into the picture.

As I interpret all this now, at least in part, my health challenge contributed to my ADHD. In my case I believe it was likely my ADHD was, in part, a coping strategy that helped me stay alive.

Now, Iā€™m grateful for the strengths and abilities this left me with. I have great compassion for, and often unique insights into my clients inner challenges, both from the entrepreneur/professional side, and the human and existential experience side.

There is a better way through. I want to help you find it. You will gain from your own introspection and intentional changes.

If you're ready to find your way through challenges, let's explore it together.
